School Activities
Activity: Cleaning up the village of Cemagi (at the beach and around the residents), sorting the collected trashes led by Sungai Watch representative, and learning English (vocabulary and basic speaking based on the national school curriculum)
Implementation of activities at the school: For 5 consecutive weeks (once every week), we run a programme called English 4 Trash for students of SMPN 7 Mengwi (middle school level - grade 8). The idea was to implement a hands on learning project which covers activity such as collecting trash, sorting and learning about English. For each session, the duration was 1.5 hours started in the morning.
Other interesting facts about the school: 24 students (from the school student council) followed the programme from the 1st session until the 5th. As many as 100 kg of trashes were collected from the clean up. Students enthusiastically gave positive feedback to the activity by coming back every week.
Messages from the ground
"At home, I don't see many trashes. But by doing this activity, I realised I have found a lot more!" - I Komang Adi Nugraha Saputra
Story by Ni Made Arum Tungga Dewi, grade 8 (age 13). At home, she never really thought about sorting the household trashes. Never really thought that it was important. But since joining the programme, she became more aware and have the willingness to educate their parents about the importance of doing a proper waste management by sorting their waste. Also be more aware of not littering in the environment.
