School Activities

Activity:  Training/Awareness program related to Menstrual health and hygiene (water and hygiene)

Implementation of activities at the school:  A project with the theme “Monsoon and menstrual hygiene” was successfully launched in a community school “Set Devi Secondary School “of Pharping ward no -9 , Dakshinkali Municipality, Nepal. It was a project initiated and coordinated by Working As Angels (WAA) in collaboration with Swarovski Waterschool. The purpose of the program was to give all students of secondary level knowledge regarding menstruation while educating them on menstrual hygiene, and how to manage it.

Reviewing our school curriculum which doesn’t provide enough space for CSE, we thought our project would be really helpful for our targeted group. A total of 200 students benefited from the process. With the motive of providing them with enough menstrual hygiene knowledge, we recruited 4 volunteers to help us with the process. With every student’s participation, our project was a grand success.

Other interesting facts about the school:  Shree Seti Devi Secondary School is a government school with spacious property for 217 total students and 3 earthquake resistant buildings. The school provides free lunch upto class 5 and has ITC Lab, a science lab library, clean bathrooms and filtered drinking water for the students with a total of 18 teachers and 1 staff nurse present everyday.

Messages from the ground

"Menstruation is a natural phenomenon and I comfort my female classmates to not to panic if they menstruate during the class in the school"  Student name Ram Tamang. Grade 10

"Menstruation is natural phenomenon, there is nothing to hide or be ashamed of, if I ever witness any of my classmates or female family members menstruating, I'll them not to worry, and try to comfort them, I will reach out to a female teacher for help at school and my mother if it is at family. I also learned that the cloths used during menstruation needs to washed with clean water and soap and needs to be sundried so that it kills all the gems and bacteria"

- Umesh Tamang, age 12, Grade: 7
