Waterschool Activity: Heart in Solidarity with the Planet (Stop Plastic Pollution)

Implementation of activities at the school: The “CORAÇÃO SOLIDÁRIO COM O PLANETA” (Heart in Solidarity with the Planet) project was held in two different periods at the 12 de Julho school in Quilombo, São Tomé. With a 6 to 14 years old group the developed project, focused on the problem of plastics for the environment, namely for the pollution of the oceans and aquatic forms. The second part of the project took place on October 22nd with the implementation of the activity with plastics and with the heart. The main task was focused on raising awareness for the issue of ocean pollution and recycling, highlighting the younger audience (aged 6 to 14) through the placement of a Giant Heart in schools nationwide. The children had the task of collecting plastics in their homes and communities and taking them to school, in order to fill their hearts in solidarity with the planet. Awareness-raising was carried out with children and teachers on this topic. Reinforcing our institution's motto ''Small but firm steps towards a better world'', we believe that it is with children and young people that great transformations and positive changes in our ''Blue Planet'' can happen.

Other interesting facts about the school: On October 15th, we made a presentation to the students of a power point that contained a brief presentation of the WATER SCHOOLS project, the issue of plastic for the oceans, namely for the surrounding biodiversity and the project's general SDGs. Finally, the students included in the project promised to collect plastic, wash it and fold it to fill the giant heart on October 22nd. On October 22nd, the group of students brought the plastics and filled their hearts, which later stayed at the school. To make an even greater impact, each of the children signed their name under a certificate of “Ambassador of the CORAÇÃO SOLIDÁRIO COM O PLANETA”.
